A local news team was filming a report on the crime wave that’s taken over my town, when they actually happened to witness a robbery and get it on tape. Notice how police is nowhere to be seen because more and more officers are quitting the force due to the highly dangerous work and ridiculously low compensation. Brazil will be like Venezuela in no time...

Having more cops doesn’t prevent crime like this. Unless you live in a police state or under martial law you'll never have a cop on every corner. Having a healthy economy where everyone can make a living prevents crime like this. I think you're right about the direction of Brazil.

It’s true, that would be the real, long term solution, but it wouldn’t help much with what’s already happening right now. This isn’t just a wave of isolated incidentes, these criminals have a deep connection to favela drug trafficking rings and criminal organizations. For them, it’s just a lucrative busines. Lots of these guys were in jail at one or point or another, but because the state operates under the belief that criminals are themselves victims of society, they’re not held accountable for their actions and released after only a couple weeks, even in cases of grand larceny.
